Richmond and Henrico health districts launch mobile vaccination campaign

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – The Richmond-Henrico Health District is trying to increase immunizations by bringing the vaccines to people as part of their “From the Streets to the Streets” campaign.

Patrick Henry Park hosted one of five events on Friday in the East End. Organizers say the goal is to educate and inform people that the vaccine can get to them.

“Get the word out in low turnout areas and really have a face-to-face conversation with people who may still be hesitant,” Outreach Operations Coordinator Kate Johnson said of the campaign.

Volunteers from the VDH, the Medical Reserve Corps and the state went from street to street to spread the word.

“Come in, get your shot and you’re good,” a volunteer canvasser said simply to a person sitting in his car along the N25e.

Anyone interested in getting vaccinated then heads to VDH’s mobile vaccination van, parked at Patrick Henry Park, with vaccines administered by people like Julie Moon. She called it a “great honor” to help give the injections and to help with the effort.

Friday’s events ran from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting at the park, and later moving to other locations like the East End Library and Hope Pharmacy.

“It’s a very specific area where there are going to be a lot of people who are very hesitant, and then a lot of people who are totally on board. We are anticipating all of this today, ”Johnson said.

She said the campaign also serves as a briefing for people who might not be fully convinced by what they read online or who may not have a family doctor to discuss the benefits of getting themselves done. vaccinate.

“Not just trying to talk to people about Covid-19 vaccines, but also talking to someone face to face; trying to understand what their struggles have been through Covid and meet them where they are, ”Johnson added.

Other walk-in vaccination events are scheduled for Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. – The full schedule is available here.
